Marlene Nall Johnt Realistic, Impressionistic and Abstract Southern Art
My book, A Retired Art Teacher Tells All, is highly praised in School Arts Magazine's May/June 2011 issue. The entire review may be seen when scrolling through the "Press" selection. This is a wonderful honor.

Summer of our Discontent

The summer of 2010 in south Alabama was tense. I watched shallow water wherever I went. Always looking for and occasionally finding the dreaded sheen. At my mother's home, there is a narrow opening into the bayou, fed by Gulf and Mobile Bay currents. Here, among the driftwood stumps, I prayed to keep seeing trickling of clear water. I never saw the oil here, and I will not take shallow clear water for granted again.
