Marlene Nall Johnt Realistic, Impressionistic and Abstract Southern Art
My book, A Retired Art Teacher Tells All, is highly praised in School Arts Magazine's May/June 2011 issue. The entire review may be seen when scrolling through the "Press" selection. This is a wonderful honor.

I recently retired as a high school art teacher.  With over twenty three years in the classroom, I envisioned hundreds of ideas for personal expression.  Because my joy was helping my students develop their own styles, I postponed my explorations into creating a personal style until now.  Please join me as I make my ideas whole.  I'll gleefully explore a vast range of subjects and styles that appeal to me.   Follow along as I change approaches to express what I love and believe is worth revealing from my point of view.

"Impressions: De Soto Falls"

Oil on canvas. 20" x 20" x 1.5"

$500 {SOLD} (This painting does not need to be framed.)

De Soto Falls is a wild and ever-changing magical place hidden in northeast Alabama. The view I've painted is one I saw in autumn. The light is strong and the shadows are deep. The stacked rock formations sparkle in the light. Plants grow in the cracks. I've chosen to use only palette knives to apply the many layers of heavy oil paints. I am surprised so few artists have chosen to paint this gem of a location.
